Major
Production 2007
The
major production on 20 September
2007 was an ambitious undertaking
in order to celebrate our tenth
birthday in style. The idea was
to involve as many learners into
the production as possible and
to celebrate and pay tribute to
all the previous productions that
have shaped drama at the College.
Each
grade was assigned a musical from
a previous year, a director and
a directive to fill no more than
20 minutes of stage time with
an overview or excerpts from that
particular musical. The thread
of the story was them woven together
with a narrative told by the cast
of last year’s production,
The Wyrd Sisters.
Thus
the Grade 8 group, under the direction
of Mr Smit came up with some very
creative insights into ‘Footloose;
the Grade 9s under the direction
of Mrs van Reenen and Mrs Visser
performed musical items from ‘Little
Shop of Horrors’; the Grade
10s thoroughly enjoyed performing
excerpts from ‘Grease’,
directed by Mrs Combrink and the
Grade 11s gave an overview of
‘West Side Story’
directed by Mrs Verster. ‘Fame’
and ‘The Wiz’ were
acknowledged through solos by
Claire Thompson and Marike Smith
and the staff paid tribute to
‘Fiddler on the Roof’.
There
were two very successful performances
with the highlight being the gala
evening. At the gala evening tables
were decorated reflecting the
style and themes of the various
musicals. The audience dressed
up appropriately. The final surprise
of the evening, ‘Swan Lake’
by a number of male staff, will
not easily be forgotten.
It
truly was a great big birthday
celebration.
