Grade
8 Orientation Week - 2007
All new pupils
and Grade 8 pupils were welcomed
into life at Uplands College by
a fun-filled day on Monday, 15
January 2007. Activities included
a boat race across the Uplands
Institute Dam, a treasure hunt
around the College grounds and
swimming games at the pool. All
Grade 8s had the opportunity to
talk to the School Mentors and
ask questions about their first
day of high school. The day ended
with each team performing very
creative war cries and enjoying
lunch at the pavilion.
The
orientation program continued on
Thursday, 18 January with a camp-out
on the hockey field. After the Grade
8s had pitched their tents, the
Mentors introduced the spiritual
component of the program at the
pavilion. As the first activity
was about to start, a violent rainstorm
hit Uplands and shouts of “save
your tents!” could be heard
around the field. Unable to continue
the evening outside, everyone moved
to the hall. Thanks must go to the
College Mentors for organizing an
excellent program which introduced
the new pupils to all facets of
College life. After a restless night
spent in the hall, the boys were
woken at 04h00 for a jog around
the school and a swim in the pool.
The Grade 8s left the camp-out tired,
but feeling positive about their
year ahead. |
