Grade
8 Orientation Week - 2008
Following the tradition
which was started in 2007, the
Grade 8s had a camp-out on the
College property within their
first week of arriving at Uplands
College.
The
hard-core campers were soon distinguished
from the city-slickers. Putting
the tent poles into the wrong
holes, giving up on figuring out
how a fly-sheet works and even
pitching a tent upside-down (no
jokes - there are pictures to
prove this …) seemed to
be the norm rather than the exception.
The
mentors did a great job in keeping
the Grade 8s busy. The Doughnut
Olympics turned out to be a messy
affair, which was quickly sorted
out by a late-afternoon swim.
The girls then had to prove just
how cold a Grade 8 can be when
a guy tries to make a move and
were surprisingly successful.
The
evening went well and although
lights-out was meant to be at
21h00, the Grade 8s soon showed
the staff members present that
they had different ideas. Eventually
everyone went to sleep, spending
a lovely night under the stars.
