Grade
8 Camp 2010
On 3 August 2010 we embarked on a breathtaking
journey into the wilds of Kwa Madwala
Private Game Reserve in Malelane. On
arrival we were treated to thirst-quenching
fruit juice and moist cookies. We had
a brief introduction from the group
coordinator and the rest of the Kwa
Madwala team who would ensure that our
stay would be as unforgettable as possible.
We
were split into three groups: the Elephants,
Lions and Rhinos, and so began our wide
range of daily activities, including
elephant and horseback safaris (a first
and favourite for most of us), shooting,
tracking and spoor identification, and
insect and reptile identification. We
had the privilege of quite a few game
drives in open vehicles in search of
the only two lions in the Reserve. Sadly,
none of the groups managed to see one.
Our fun-filled days ended with satisfying
suppers at the campfire and some of
us also visited their tuckshop. We spent
the evenings playing pool, or having
a drumming session on the Djembe drums
which Ms Coetzer had brought along.
Our
time for departure came all too soon,
yet none of us left empty handed as
a prize-giving was held. The Elephants
won the majority of the prizes.
Good
times were had by all, some new friendships
were formed and our Uplands values brought
new meaning to us at this amazing camp.
Our whole Grade would like to thank
everyone who made this mind-blowing
experience possible.
