The 2008 Inter-high Swimming gala took place on 26 February. Uplands hosted the event at the municipal pool in Nelspruit. We realised from the outset that the odds were against us, but it was evident that our swimmers raised the bar on Tuesday.

Penryn College continued its domination of swimming in the Lowveld by winning the Girls’ Trophy, Boys’ Trophy and the Overall Trophy. There were some outstanding individual results, but the teams’ overall performance is highly commendable. The gala was well supported by both pupils and parents of the various schools. Uplands College and Barberton High were placed second and third respectively.

The best individual performances for the College included:
Jeffrey Calmeyer 1st in U14 Breaststroke
Francis Ferreira 1st in Open Boys Breaststroke
Danielle Barton 1st in U14 Backstroke
Kelsey Matus 1st in Open Girls Freestyle

U14 girls’ relay team also took first place. There were also 25 Uplands College swimmers who were placed second in individual events.

Well done on a highly successful season! Thanks must go to the officials for their effort and time. Congratulations to the swimmers for their enthusiasm and commitment this year. This concludes the swimming season.
