The
Senior Inter-House plays on Thursday night,
13 March 2008 were of an exceptional standard.
All the plays were original scripts written
and directed by matric students. The College
House play, ‘M
is for Mommy, M is for Murder’,
was directed by Tammy Harrison.
It is a play about two detectives (Celliers
Verster and Amy Vieler)
trying to solve the brutal murder of three
young girls. Various media, including
film, have been integrated with theatre,
with exciting results.
The
Founders House play called
‘Perfect Alibi’
was written and directed by Thando
Mahlangu. It is a court case
drama about a young girl who is on trial
for the murder of her step-father. It
was a thought provoking reflection on
social issues because the stepfather sexually
abused the young girl which, eventually,
led to his murder. Ewald Esselen
had everybody howling with laughter.
The
Bishop House play was
called ‘It’s all
National Geographic’
written and directed by Graham
Pote. The play explores the oddities
of human behaviour, and how weird interactions
between humans can be. It joins sketch
comedies of similar scenes in a National
Geographic documentary, presented by the
‘Mac-Meister’ (Butana
Mabunda). The script was creative
and witty and made some very pertinent
satirical comment.
An
impressive thunder storm caused electricity
to fail and the third play, ‘It’s
all National Geographic,
had to be postponed until the following
morning (14 March).
