Rugby - Easter Holidays
March/April 2008

Parktown Boys U14 Rugby Festival
The U14 Rugby Team went on a short, but very intense, Rugby tour to Parktown Boys’ U14 Rugby Festival in Johannesburg. The boys played six matches of 20 minutes each. On the first day they played Hilton College and lost 0-32 and an hour later played against Edenvale and won 12-5. The next day matches were played against Helpmekaar (lost 5-22), Randpark (lost narrowly by 0-5), Jeppe (lost 0-33) and the last game was against Saints. Although they won only one match, they played their hearts out and never gave up. This is a young side and many of the boys had never played rugby at junior school level. They came up against big boys’ only schools and showed such determination; they learned camaraderie and their team spirit was extremely high. This team could develop into one of our best!

1st XV Rugby Tour
The 1st Rugby XV toured to the thriving metropolis of Kokstad these holidays to participate in their annual Festival. We played the main game on Thursday, 20 March against George Campbell Technical High School from Durban. George Campbell is a school of almost 1000 boys with eight open sides and play against top schools in KZN such as Westville, Glenwood and DHS. Uplands expected a tough and physical encounter and that was exactly what we experienced. The Uplands boys played with

great determination. Unforced errors at critical stages were their downfall and they lost by 12-27. They also played some creative rugby and scored two scintillating tries by Thabo Khoza and Keith Trytsman. Uplands played against Thomas More College in Durban on Saturday, 22 March and won convincingly 26-3. Keith Trytsman scored three tries in the match and kicked three conversions. Jason Wright scored the fourth try.
