Co-Ed Independent Festival
March/April 2008

The Co-Ed Independent Festival was hosted by Treverton College in Mooi River. Twelve schools participated, including two schools from Zimbabwe. The festival usually involves Rugby, Hockey and Netball, but this year there was only Hockey and Tennis. Although called a festival, the hockey was played as in a tournament with two pools and cross-pool playoffs. Uplands College Boys’ First Team played in the final where they lost 2-1 to Howick High School.

The U16 Girls’ Hockey came 7th out of nine teams - a considerable feat considering they were up against first teams in this competition. The results were a reflection of how much they had improved in the tournament: they lost their first match 0-7 but beat two teams and kept losing scores very low at the end of the five-day tour. The Uplands team secured the spirit trophy to show the other visiting teams the camaraderie and fun-filled spirit that is part of our everyday make-up.

Uplands College Girls’ First Team results were excellent. The girls played five games, winning two, losing two and drawing one. The results of each game were:
Vs Treverton B 2-0
Vs Felixton 0-0
Vs Voortrekker 0-2
Vs Creston 1-2
Vs Treverton B 4-1

Top goal scorer was Meegan Lindsay with three goals.

Jenaed Brodell was selected for the IPT squad, to attend final trials and Lauren McCreedy was selected and attended final trials for the CD side. Antony Franks and Kevin Addison were selected for IPT Men and Lindy de Bruyn was selected for CD Ladies.
