Tri-schools
Winter Sports Derby
6-7
March 2009
Uplands
participated in a ‘tri-schools’
winter sports derby versus Hoërskool
Nelspruit and Hoërskool Pionier
from Vryheid on 6 and 7 March 2009.
All the Hockey matches were played at
Uplands on Friday afternoon. The Boys’
Hockey results were outstanding. We
played five matches and won all of them.
A truly outstanding achievement against
a school of the calibre of Hoërskool
Nelspruit. The U14A’s won 3-2
with Cameron Jacobz scoring a hat-trick
of goals. The U16B’s won 4-3,
the U16A’s won 2-0, the 2nd XI
won 4-0 and the 1st team won 2-1 in
a very exciting encounter. The College
had the better of them throughout the
game, but was unable to capitalise on
a number of opportunities created. Kevin
Addison (Captain) broke the deadlock
by scoring from a short corner with
a powerful strike. Nelspruit equalised
soon after that and the game was destined
to be a draw. Uplands was awarded a
penalty flick which Kevin put away to
secure a 2-1 victory.
The
Girls’ Hockey teams found the
going tough. We played 8 games, lost
five, drew 2 and our U14A’s played
an exciting brand of Hockey to beat
Hoërskool Nelspruit 3-2. The Netball
teams played a double round on Saturday
and won 50% of their matches.
The
U15A XV rugby team beat Nelspruit’s
U15B team 22-17 and our U15B’s
rugbt team beat Hoërskool Pionier’s
U15B’s 24-0.
The
1st team played against ‘The Mambas’
– their 2nd XV. It was an entertaining
game and we were 5-10 down with 15 minutes
to go. The final score was 5-29.
