June - July 2009

The Uplands 1st XI played against Benoni High School on Friday, 26 June in a T20 match hosted by Uplands. We batted first and scored 114/4 in our allotted 20 overs. Benoni High was bowled out for 94 thus us winning by 20 runs.

Willowridge from Pretoria visited us during the week of 21 July to play a few matches. On Thursday, the 1st XI played a 50 over match against our visitors. Uplands, without some of our regular 1st team players because of holidays, batted first and scored a meagre 137 all out. James Mathey (40 runs) and Kayde Ball (19 runs) were the main contributors with the bat.

Willowridge was well on track to win comfortably, but James Mathey completed a man-of-the-match performance by taking 5/43 in 8.4 overs. He was well supported by Joshua Rood 3/25 in 8 overs and Garth van Rooyen with 2/34 in 8 overs. Uplands managed to win by 7 runs!

The same two teams played a T20 match on 23 July. This time Willowridge batted first and was restricted to 94/9 in their 20 overs. Joshua Rood took 2/12 and James Mathey 2/18. Uplands were in full control throughout their innings and scored 95/1 thus securing victory by 9 wickets. Tyrone Tilly scored a blistering 45 not out and James Mathey scored 21 not out.

The 2nd XI also played against Willowridge on 22 and 23 July in a T20 format. Willowridge batted first and scored 92/6. Uplands scored 94/7 and won by 3 wickets in a very closely contested affair. Cameron Jacobsz top scored with 22 not out. The match the next day was a one-sided affair. Uplands went into bat and finished on 122/3 in 20 overs. Nicholas Ferreira hit some lusty blows in his innings of 48. Willowridge were bowled out for 71 runs. Oscar Kolbe made good use of a slow track and took 2/14 in his 4 overs with Cameron Jacobsz taking 2/16 in 2 overs. Uplands won by 51 runs.
