Mountain
Biking
2009
Saturday,
20 June 2009 launched the MPU Schools
MTB Series at Uplands College. This
was the first in a series of four events.
The race consists of a lap race of approximately
2 km around a track.
Categories
for the race are based on school sports,
so boys and girls from U7 to Open age
groups may participate, with varying
numbers of laps for each category. Points
are given to all entries. These go towards
the school and at the end of the series
there will be a winning school and a
winning individual who will go to the
Inter-schools’ National event
on 26 September 2009 in Pretoria.
Race
2 was held on 25 June 2009 at Mankele,
with 161 kids jostling each other in
the start chute like real professionals.
The racing was as hot as any national
series and the atmosphere electric.
Lydenburg came in first, with Uplands
a close second.
Woodlands
School in Sabie will host the event
on 8 August and Penryn the Regional
Finals on 12 September 2009.
