Girls'
Soccer
2009
Our season started with
a bit of a problem - our key players
had to play a Hockey fixture against
a touring team and were unavailable.
The First Team consisted mainly of Grade
8 and 9 girls and duly lost 2-1 against
Vulindlela High School.
The following week our
victory march started as the senior
players, Jade Perreira, Muhle Silinda,
Michaela Erskog and Lorraine Bembe returned.
We returned scores of 6-0, 3-0 and 12-0.
Jade scored a hattrick and a double
hattrick along the way. This was not
bad for a team that that had not practised
as the seniors still played Hockey.
We qualified for the
semi-finals of the league. Unfortunately
they were postponed and a number of
the regular players were not available.
We played against a very competent Lowveld
High team and squeezed through 1-0 with
an own goal.
The final was against
the old rival, Penryn. Our star player,
Jade, was heavily marked and did not
have any space to dominate the game.
The determination and gutsy display
from the rest of the team was commendable.
In the end Jade’s class shone
through and her two goals gave us a
2-0 victory.
Our most promising player
for the future is Daniella Veldsman.
As a Grade 8 pupil she was a stalwart
of the First Team and was selected for
Mbombelo U15, while Jade was selected
for the U17 side. Congratulations to
the girls on their achievements.
