Grade
8 Camp-out 2010
Directly
after the “Guppy Gala”,
30 tents housing over 90 pupils were
spread out on the Uplands sports fields
for the annual camp-out, which concluded
the first week of orientation. It was
a wonderful night with warm, clear skies.
The seasoned campers were soon distinguished
from the city-slickers, with some tents
being pitched in a matter of minutes
and others taking a fair bit longer.
To the delight of the youngsters, hot
chocolate and doughnuts were dispensed,
followed by games. Although the Mentors
are responsible for the fun and games
for the evening, the Grade 8 register
teachers oversee the proceedings.
The
evening went well and although lights-out
was meant to be at 21h00, the Grade
8s soon showed the staff members present
that they had different ideas. Eventually
everyone went to sleep, spending a lovely
night under the stars. Waking up the
following day was not easy, as most
of the pupils only managed three hours
of sleep!
