2006

The Uplands Annual Honours Function was held on 19 October 2006, during which the achievements of pupils were acknowledged and celebrated. Uplands College is on the map, mainly due to the three pillars of strength: pupils, parents and staff. Mr Martin Dreyer, a past pupil of the Prep and current champion of the Millenium Big 5 Challenge, was the guest speaker. He spoke about the importance of preparation, resilience and setting goals.

The following pupils were recipients of Special Awards:

  • Dux Scholar: Carina Viljoen
  • Proxime Accesit: Anke Penzhorn
  • Entrepreneur of the Year: Wouter van Velden
  • The Marisa Longuinho Award: Fawzia Haeri
  • Sportsman of the Year: Robin Arkell
  • Sportswoman of the Year: Megan McCreedy
  • The Arthur Gaydon-Connock Cup: Brendon Blignaut
  • The Hyson Trophy for Endeavour: Simone Aveleira
  • The Tecklenburg Trophy for Good Fellowship: Robyn-Lee Kellock
  • The Founders Award: Riaan Pienaar

Sixteen mentors have been appointed for 2007. It was also decided to appoint a Deputy Head Boy and Deputy Head Girl for the first time. We believe the time has come for the College management to introduce this leadership structure to afford more people the opportunity to excel as leaders.

The mentors for 2007 are:

The Uplands Senate is a body elected by the pupils to represent pupil interest at all levels of management. Senate representatives review aspects of school policies and have input into changes that are made. They also highlight areas of perceived unfairness or inconsistency in applying school policy.

Because so much of what the Senate achieves goes unrecognised and unrewarded, we decided to raise the profile of the Senate by announcing the results of the election at Honours evening.

The following pupils have been elected to serve on the Senate for 2006/2007:
