The
Uplands College annual Honours and
Speech Day event was held on 23
October 2008. Uplands celebrated
the achievements of our pupils and
acknowledge the contribution they
have made to 2008the success of
the College.
Mr Peter van Kets, the guest speaker,
shared his experiences of crossing
the Atlantic Ocean (approximately
5400 km) from the Canary Islands
to Antiqua in the Caribbean in a
rowing boat. It is a fascinating
and inspirational story of two men
pursuing their dream, the preparation
they put in, their perseverance,
their resilience, breaking through
every pain barrier to win the race
and to be crowned World Champions.
The pupils were the focus of his
speech which was enjoyed by everyone
and his sense of humour added the
appropriate spice to the event.
