Eisteddfod
Uplands College entered
the choir, the orchestra and over 60 individuals
into the Nelspruit Standard Bank Eisteddfod
in spite of the fact that we had our own
huge Major
Production slap bang in the middle
there of.
In
the dance category, only a few girls took
part. All group items were awarded with
85% or higher. Girls taking part were
Nicole Bentley, Amelia McLennan and Willemien
Jerling. The two girls mentioned last
also took part in individual items with
Amelia, receiving two gold certificates
and Willemien one gold and one gold+.
A
total of 34 students took part in the
visual art section, with very good results.
Prestige Awards (above 90%) were awarded
to Ashleigh Austin, Ewald Esselen and
Emma James. Stefanie van Velden, Michael
Haigh, Kylie-Ann Granat, Maya da Silva,

The
English Drama took place in the same week
as our major production. Needless to say
we had to withdraw some entries, but those
who did push through, did us proud with
Olwethu de Vos and Kanyisile Dlamini both
being awarded gold for poetry, and Lauren
Erasmus getting an A+ for reading. Well
done to these girls!
Light
Music vocal: In this section we had no
less than 20 entries, achieving one silver
and all the others gold and prestige certificates.
It is interesting to know that in the
competitive section there were 21 entries
of which 8 girls were from us. Girls singing
their way through to wonderful achievements
in this section, were Alexandra Matthews,
Makeeda Gamedze, Tshepiso Phosa, Rumbi
Tendaupenyu, Kylie-ann Granat, Anne-Marie
Smith, Courtney Walker, Willemien Jerling,
Palesa Theledi and Samantha Davies. The
chamber choir also sang in this section
and achieved 86%.
Light
Music Instrumental: Four entries all achieving
above 87% in this section. They were the
Walker twins (Beth and Sarah) and Stefanie
van Velden. Alex Matthews should be commended
for her versatility, playing the piano,
saxophone, entering her own compositions
and singing!! Well done.
In
the classical section (instrumental),
Uplands College was well represented.
Well done to Katherine McGinn, Beth Walker
and Sarah Walker on the clarinet, Teighyn
Allmark and Hanna Schlegel on the flute,

piano and of course Franli Muller on violin.
Our orchestra also had a great performance
and walked away with 90%!! Congratulations
