The
unique location enjoyed by Uplands
College lends itself to the wide range
of outdoor pursuit activities offered
throughout the year to the more adventurous
pupils.
The
Outdoor Pursuits Programme
caters for both individual needs and
group participation, thus building
character and team spirit as well
as group awareness.

Boys
and girls embark on rafting adventures
over rapids, where skills and
courage are challenged and friendships
forged. The Outdoor Pursuits Coordinator
leads each grade in a Rafting
adventure during the course of
the first term. The Sabie and
Olifants rivers and Blyde River
Canyon provide magnificent scenery
and conditions for the rafters
to experience the thrill of this
exciting pursuit. |

Abseiling,
Rock Climbing

those at Uplands electing to
join these excursions to Elandskrans
and Sabie where a range of climbing
routes are offered to climbers.
All
these activities are enjoyed
under the expert supervision
of an instructor, where safety

During
the third and fourth term, RunX,
Canoeing, Cross
Country and Mountain
Biking are offered in
the afternoon programme. The College
is surrounded by a variety of
forest roads, which offer the
perfect setting for any keen mountain
biker. The undulating roads tax
the stamina of riders as they
tackle the steep uphills and nerves
are tested as they race down the
hills.
Another exciting cycling activity
offered by the college is the
sport of "Downhilling".
This requires cyclists to have
nerves of steel as they test their
skill and courage on some of the
steepest slopes of the surrounding
mountains. |
|
| |
|
Canoeing
and Sailing
takes place at Lake Longmere and this
sport generates great interest in
the outdoors.
RunX
is a running programme that
is part of the Life
Orientation programme in Grade
8 and 9.
As
the 9-week programme progresses, pupils
can monitor their own fitness levels.
|
 |
| |
|
An
annual Advenure
Race is also held.
Cross
Country is offered
for those interested in running
on the undulating course around
the College. The Inter-house
Cross-country event is held
in the fourth term.
The
Uplands
College Equestrian Centre
has facilitated the stabling
of eight horses with a further
nine stables due to open next
year.
Scuba
Diving, Sailing, Kayaking, Archery
and Fly-fishing courses are
all offered from time to time.
