2009
The
annual Quad Dash is fast becoming
a major event on the calendar. Although
not a traditional athletics race,
it is an exhilarating affair of pace,
power and passion. The corridors were
lined with eager spectators searching
for ways to encourage their House
representatives and they were not
to be disappointed.
The
first race was the U14 Girls’
event and it was clear after the bend
that Shannon Tilly was in complete
control. Her time of 1.02.79 would
eclipse all the girls’ races
to follow. Jan Jerling had to endure
some rather dubious tactics from opposition
before he finally broke free to canter
home. Ryan Brain proved it was not
a race for ‘sissies’ as
he crossed the finish line in horizontal
fashion.
Domenica
Pupillo and Kirk Trytsman both powered
their way home with ease in the U15
event, but the fight for runner-up
was vicious with Victor Malaza and
Cloudia Howe eventually pulling through.
In the U16 race Emma James stole the
thunder, but Simone Vosloo was a close
second. The boys fought all the way
and a terrific final assault saw Chris
Schoeman home split seconds ahead
of Filipe Hovens.
The
final event saw new champions in the
Open category with Nisa Mnisi pipping
old man Keith Trytsman to the finish
line. Kirstie Howe showed the tenacity
she has delivered the entire year
in storming home ahead of a determined
Gretchen Dietz.
The
final results were tantalizingly close
and although College House only limped
home in 3rd place, they were a mere
3 points off the target. Bishop and
Founders eventually each took home
57 of the 168 points on offer to share
the spoils.
Well
done to all those who participated.
