Swimming
- Grade 8 Gala 2008
Uplands
College held the annual Guppie
Gala on Friday, 18 January 2008.
This gala is held in the first
school week to involve new pupils
straight away and to identify
swimmers for the Inter-house
Gala. Grade 8 pupils must swim
each individual event in the
afternoon, swimming in heats
for their respective House (Bishop,
College or Founders).
Some
of the highlights included:
Bishop
House
Danielle Barton
will no doubt continue to take
first places as she did in Bishop
House heats, making a clean
sweep in all strokes; Jeffery
Calmeyer was the star
for Bishop boys, but James
Prettejohn won the
Backstroke heat, stopping Jeffery
from making a clean sweep.
College
House
A girl once again, Ashleigh
Balcomb, made a clean
sweep of the first position
in all strokes. The boys have
a pair as Byron Rose
won the Butterfly and the Breast
strokes, with the other two
first places in Backstroke and
Freestyle being won by Victor
Malasa.
Founders
House
Domenica Pupillo
won the Butterfly and Freestyle.
Michelle Rorich
took the Backstroke and Chanelle
Kotze won the Breaststroke.
Oscar Kolbe
won all his heats, except for
Backstroke, which was won by
Nick Wright.
There
is a lot of potential amongst
the Grade 8 pupils and with
proper training, there is a
bright future for this age group
in swimming.
Well
done to all the Gade 8 swimmers!
