Hockey - Girls
The First Girls’ X1 have had a good 2007 season. To date we have played a total of 24 games, with 11 wins and 5 draws. There are still another six games to be played and already 62 goals have been scored. Angie Horrell with a total of 19 is the top goal scorer.

Magna Howard has been selected to play for the Mpumalanga U19 side wee wish her well with her upcoming tournament.

This year we saw the inaugural entry into the Mpumalanga Ladies' League and have achieved some fantastic results, encouraging the girls to play more systematic and dynamic hockey. There are a further games before the end of the league season.

We have attended two festivals, Cornwall Hill and the Independent Co-ed Festival. At Cornwall Hill we had draws to Redhill and Stanford Lake. The College hosted the Co-ed Festival and we had the privilege of being the first hockey team to play on the new Astroturf. During this festival we had two wins against St Peter’s College and Leeuwenhof, and drew to the Zimbabwean side from Gateway.

We recently held our 2007 Winter Sports Dinner and Award Ceremony and the following awards were presented to our girls. Certificates were given to Lauren Stansfield, Michelle Thompson and Muhle Silinda. Awards ties were presented to Milva Nguenha, Tanya Mwamwetta, Lauren McCreedy, Caitlin Japhet, Megan Veldtman, Emma Smith, Angie Horrell, Leanne van Rooyen, Kate Atherstone, Kelly Craig, Jessica Tecklenburg, Franli Muller, Magna Howard, Kim Rochat and Claire Arkell. Hockey - Boys
The Uplands College First Team won the Lowveld League, for the second time in a row, during 2008. The boys played twenty four games in what has been a very exciting season. Of the fourteen boys who played last year only four remained. This meant that some very young players had to step up and they displayed incredible determination in doing so. The results of our local league games are as follows:

Vs Nelspruit Hoer won 2 - 0
Vs Lowveld High won 3 - 1
Vs Lydenburg won 5 - 0
Vs Rob Ferreira won 3 – 1
Vs Bergvlam won 5 - 2
Vs Penryn College drew 0 – 0

The top two teams in the league had to play against teams from the Highveld in the Mpumalanga play-offs. Uplands played Hoerskool General Hertzog in the quarterfinals and won 4-0. We played Secunda in the semi- finals and drew 1-1 having had an obvious goal disallowed. We lost
4 – 3 in a penalty shootout.

Highlights of the season include six games at a festival where we played against teams from all over South Africa and playing against numerous touring teams.
