Netball
Netball
2009 once again had a very busy, but
exciting, season. The First Team was
a young team, not winning many matches.
The players did, however, walk off the
field as winners at the end of each
match since they held their heads high,
kept on trying and maintained their
dignity at all times. Their behaviour
epitomised our Uplands College values!
The
First Team participated in two very
challenging festivals. The first one
was the St Andrews festival during the
April holidays where the girls played
four games a day for four consecutive
days. This was quite a challenge! The
girls were very tired at the end of
the tournament, but learned many new
skills and realised that Netball was
definitely not for ‘sissies’.
The second festival was at Cornwall
Hill where many other private schools
participated.
The
junior teams won many more matches.
They also participated in the Mpumalanga
league. The U14 and U15A teams managed
to go through to the final round in
Middelburg. This was a most interesting
and challenging outing. The U14s had
several good matches, but their lack
of experience inhibited their progress.
They will no doubt do much better next
year. The U15 Team was most successful
this year. The girls had had a lot of
exposure during the 2008 season and
consequently managed to improve their
game this year to end third overall
in the Small Schools’ League.
They played a very dedicated game and
were a pleasure to watch.
