Boys'
Cricket
Cricket is one of the cornerstone sports at the College. We embrace the philosophy that cricket is a gentlemen's game. We instill the old traditions of this wonderful game which forms part of our holistic development.
We produced a number of provincial players since our inception at U15 level (PG Bison Week) and at U19 level (The Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Week).
We field seven teams at Uplands and cricket is played during the third and fourth terms. We have two grass turf cricket ovals and have recently upgraded our circket nets.
There are constant challenges facing the game of cricket. At Uplands we decided to plan the way forward as part of our strategic intent for the next five years hence the following decisions:
.
The 1st XV and U15 XV play in the Mpumalanga Super League. This decision enables us to play against stronger cricketing schools throughout the province.
The 1st XV team goes on an inland tour on an annual basis - primarily to the Western Cape or Eastern Cape depending on the availability of fixtures.
We want to hone the skills of our young players coming through the ranks. Therefore we constantly look at finding Festivals for our U14 players to participate in.
Through the inititative of the College, we are in the process of starting a T20 league in the Lowveld region. This league will take place during the first six weeks of the first term.
The objective is to give our cricketers more games and more exposure against stronger opposition.
We have close ties with Mr. Harry Shapiro who presents a winter clinic on our campus every year.
We are fortunate to have experienced and committed staff.
Girls’
Cricket
Girls’ Cricket
takes place during the third and fourth
terms. This is growing in popularity
amongst the girls as a summer sport.
There are some fixtures against local
schools and inter-house matches.
