Uplands
hosted the annual Derby against
Penryn from 30 to 31 May 2008.
The Derby coincided with our Founders
Day celebrations and the Uplands
Festival. We traditionally
celebrate this occasion with our
friends from Penryn College.
The
final Rugby match between the
1st teams of the two schools concluded
the celebrations. It was an exciting
encounter with both teams prepared
to play expansive rugby. Penryn
has shown this year that they
have a formidable side –
they lost only narrowly to St
Stithian’s 1st Team a few
weeks earlier - which is an indication
of their strength. However, the
Uplands boys played with an imbedded
determination. The half-time score
was 12-0 in favour of Penryn.
A penalty early in the second
half extended the lead to 15-0.
Uplands responded soon after that
when captain James Rosenfeldt
scored a brilliant try. Uplands
applied more and more pressure
and Charles Siwele scored our
second try from a lineout. Neil
Brokensha slotted the conversion
to make the score 15-12 in favour
of Penryn. It was a titanic battle,
but Penryn kept their composure
in the final minutes to secure
victory.
