Uplands College: Academic - Subjects Junior Curriculum

Subjects Choice for Grades 8 & 9

Individual subjects are integrated into the nine designated learning areas for the purposes of the General Education and Training Certificate (GETC), which is written at the end of Grade 9.

This certificate is a culmination of three years of work commencing in Grade 7.

The assessment is developed and implemented by the Independent Examinations Board (IEB). This is the same Board that sets and marks our Matric exams.

The assessment is based on work covered in “learning areas”, as opposed to the more traditional subject areas. The learning areas are as follows:

In addition, all pupils have formal contact time in Divinity and Computer Literacy. Computer Literacy is assessed formally as pupils acquire an International Computer's Drivers Licence. Pupils with a special talent for music are encouraged to write formal assessments through UNISA.
