We
provide support to deserving pupils
through our collaboration with
the Kgwale le Mollo Foundation,
which offers scholarships to children
from rural, disadvantaged schools
to attend Uplands College from
Grade 8 to Matric.
The
criteria for the successful bursary
award-winner is academic prowess,
outstanding leadership potential
and the desire to make a difference
in their own community. In 2006,
Refilwe Ndimande was the first
bursary award recipient. She was
joined this year by Sibusiso Shube,
who is the 2007 Kgwale le Mollo
bursary award winner in Grade
8.
In
addition, Gugu Nyathi (Grade 8)
has been awarded a scholarship
by the Lowveld Leadership Support
Programme, and Sandile Tshabalala
(also Grade 8) is the recipient
of a special sponsorship.
In
2007, we will offer internships
to two matriculants from previously
disadvantaged schools who aspire
to become Science or Biology teachers.
They will take part in an occupationally
directed learnership programme,
consisting of both structured
theoretical learning through tertiary
institutions and practical workplace
experience. The number of interns
will be increased to six over
three years.
